Reaching the Altus Plateau is a major milestone in Elden Ring, and the Grand Lift of Dectus offers the most direct pathway. Located at the northern border of Liurnia of the Lakes, this massive structure connects the lower regions of the Lands Between to the elevated highway leading toward Leyndell. Understanding how to find and activate the lift saves players significant time and effort during their journey.

Finding the Grand Lift of Dectus Location

The Grand Lift of Dectus is located at the far northern edge of Liurnia of the Lakes. Players can follow the main highway running through the center of Liurnia directly to the northern highway's end. Once you reach the massive stone structure guarded by statues, you will find the Site of Grace right in front of the stairs.

Approaching the lift is relatively safe, though enemy encampments line the roads nearby. You can ride Torrent past hostile guards to secure the Site of Grace quickly. Once resting at the grace point, you can prepare to collect the required keys to operate the mechanism.

Locating the Dectus Medallion Left Half

To operate the mechanism, players must gather two key items known as the Dectus Medallion halves. The left piece is located in Fort Haight, situated in the southeastern corner of Limgrave. You must clear out the outpost and climb the central tower ladder to open the treasure chest containing the left medallion half.

Fort Haight is accessible early in the game, making this half easy to obtain for new adventurers. Defeating the knight at the top of the ramparts is optional if you run past him straight to the ladder. Securing this item early prepares you for the journey into northern territories.

Locating the Dectus Medallion Right Half

The right half of the Dectus Medallion is found in Fort Faroth, which is located in the dangerous Caelid region. Navigating to Dragonbarrow in northern Caelid brings you directly to the entrance of Fort Faroth. Be cautious when entering, as the interior is filled with giant bats and poisonous creatures.

Sprint past the enemies inside the main room and immediately head up the ladder near the entrance. The chest holding the right medallion half rests at the very top of the tower. After retrieving the item, you can safely fast-travel away to avoid taking unnecessary damage from high-level foes.

Activating the Grand Lift and Reaching Altus Plateau

With both halves in your inventory, return to the Grand Lift of Dectus Site of Grace. Walk onto the central platform in front of the two giant statues to prompt an interaction. Selecting the option to hoist the medallion triggers a cutscene that carries you up to the Altus Plateau.

Activating the lift opens immediate access to new merchant inventory, high-level upgrade materials, and key story locations. While alternative routes like the Ruin-Strewn Precipice exist, using the lift remains the fastest way to progress. Preparing early ensures a smooth transition into the mid-game areas of Elden Ring.
